3 February 2009 was a great day of my life as I was the youngest person to be invited to become council committee to the inaugurable K-Economy Council Penang.

Previously, i have been invited and participated in meeting for what is called K-ICT council last time but not officially appointed as council member.

•  K-ICT Council and its four Steering Committees on e-Economy, Knowledge Worker Development, Connectivity and e-Community Development

• projects and activities of the K-ICT Council and its Steering Committees are towards the full development and planning for Penang.

K-ICT council had less than 20 council members previously, now the state government has increased it to 28 person with additional member from university, federal government agencies and non profit organization.

Though K-ICT has been change to K-Economy, and the objective has be slightly change to be the consultative advisory body that help realise the state government’s objectives to make Penang an international city-state that is:

- The location of choice for investments

- The destination of choice for tourism

- The habitat of choice for people who appreciate a sustainable lifestyle that upholds a green environment

We had the 1st K-ICT or K-Economy council meeting for the new state government. A flash back was presented by Mr Jeff Ooi to recap all teh things that have done in the past and then the repositioning of K-iCT to ‘Penang K-Economy Council’ which

- de-emphasise ICT

-Re-emphasise TALENTS and HUMAN RESOURCES as key drivers of knowledge-based economy

- Reflect key thrust areas of the new state government

For council Members 2009/2010, it includes of course our CM YAB Lim Guan Eng, Deputy Dato’ Jamaludin,SUK and from what i calculated 9 YBs, 8 Y.Bhg Dato from different government agencies and sector and 11 from different main industry players and federal agencies.

K-economy Secretariat now goes to :

- Puan Nuriannahar Mohamed (State ICT centre, SUK) and Mr Leong Choon Cheong (ICT Division, PDC)

But looking at the items proposed to focus, i think with much effort put into it. I foresee that Penang is really moving towards K-economy!

Today afternoon, when i checked my email. I receive an email with the title ‘Letter of Appreciation’.

After checking out, it was an email from the lecturer of computer science, Ms Nasuha Lee Abdullah attaching a appreciation letter with the signature of Dean Dr Rosni to me on my talk in USM previously.

In actual fact, i feel that i should be the one saying thank you to them instead for giving me the chance to speak at one of Malaysia most prominent university.

It has been my honor to have given the opportunity!

Also it is my contribution back to the students and community. approximately 9 years ago i heard a talk from another good friend Mr Mark Chang from Jobstreet which inspired me to live my current technopreneur life!

Do hope that all the students and participants enjoyed my talk and benefited from it!

We have heard everybody talking about it. We saw fliers and banners of it hanging everywhere. We have waited quite patiently for it to arrive. And yesterday, it finally did – the SCOPE ICT EXPO!

For those of you who aren’t already aware of this event, SCOPE a.k.a Software Consortium of Penang, is a non-profitable organization which was established in 2003, as an initiative of Penang State Government to promote and encourage vibrancy and dynamism of the software industry in Penang.Therefore, yesterday, over 30 exhibitors and 500 visitors from local SMI, SME, ICT, government agencies, firms, colleges and universities came to witness this event, besides collaborating in producing innovative and best-in-class products for the local, regional and global consumer, commercial and industrial markets.Besides exhibitions, the highlights of the event was the Business Matching & Networking session which offered the opportunity for companies to expand their networking, Seminars/Talks, Workshops on Grants, and not forgetting, ICT Career Fair!A lot of efforts have been put in to ensure the success of this very first SCOPE ICT EXPO. However, all hard work paid off as this event got such overwhelming response from the crowd, the committee even extended the exhibition booths to 30 (initially targeted for 20 booths only) and added additional 3 speaking sessions to accommodate the crowd! It was really a well-received event, and just so you can experience it for yourself, here are the snapshots of the event, taken by our own talented photographer! Enjoy!

It’s about planning everytime at the beginning of year, this goes for myself, my company and also organization that i joined. For this session i would elaborate more about SCoPe for a whole year events calender that we have planned out through our last year december SCoPe meeting and this year January SCoPe meeting.

 We have planned that SCoPe is going to implement 3 main types of activites througout the year:

1. ICT Expo

2. Training for capability development (open source, microsoft and others)

3. Success Story Talks to reach community and promote technopreneurship

4. New Online Yellow Pages for All Industries

Everything started kicking off and we had our 1st ‘Introduction to PHP Programming’ which attracted 18 people when the venue can only cater to 15! Great Job guys!

Then we have also launching our 1st ‘SCoPe ICT Expo Penang’ this coming 18 March 2009! Hopefully it would be a bang as well!

 Our talks also is going to be in series with USM, Inti and other colleges. It’s just not structured well because currently lack of manpower but all our members are contributing with coordination from the colleges and universities direct to them.

I at least had 5 talks for Inti, USM, KDU, Disted and other colleges, same goes with some committee and members as well.

Hopefully our last item which is the Penang Yellow Page for industry will go well and SCoPe is self sustaining with much road to cover in future!

This time my speech was about grant application and how to apply for the grant.

We went through step by step on how to develop the business plan and then tell them how ideas can be created.

After checking through there is much to improve and do correction

After the session ended. I was given a Inti Pen as souvenir. Great gift and great meaning!

Also after my talk, i launched my 1st version of book on how to implement ecommerce and how did i started earning money during my study time through knowledge!

And the 1st 100 pre launch book that came out without editing to this seminar , part of the proceeds will be donated to St.Nicholas Home. Hope this can help the visual impaired community.

Normally company have a standard way of dealing with customers, suppliers and partners.

 The main few documents used in normal business is quotation, invoice, official receipts, purchasing orders, agreement, MOU and contracts.

 How a normal deal is done is like below :

1. Customer interested in doing a project so needs to know the price in doing

2. If it’s not a standard product with a marked price like buying KFC or Mc Donalds, eg. building a website, writing a book or doing translation. Then you need to give a quotation.

A quotation should include what product and services is provided with details or units and the pricing for each of it.

3. Once customer receive a quotation , they can decide what to buy or what not to buy and then ask for 2nd quotation.

4. once customer is satisfied with the pricing and product provided as reference from the quotation. Most probably they would give a purchasing order normally called ‘PO’ to you.

5. A PO will have the details items purchasing from you and term of payment to you as well. It’s also a confirmation that they would buy from you with the pricing stated.

6. Then after that you should give the customer an invoice which confirms that you would give the service and product as per quotation and wait for customer to pay for the transaction. Payment can come in before or after the invoice is given.

I have heard from most of the people that i have met that government is not helping us and they are not putting effort into assisting entrepreneur.

 To an extent i do agree but there are a lot of things that the government has done as well both at state and federal level. If not for them, i would not be here today.

 We have had a meeting with Cradle after getting approval last year that information required to process our current progress on our system development for DOCNET system.

It seems that all is well and our progress is on schedule. As such, cradle is quite pleased with overall performance and we would be receiving our first disbursement for grant after the mobilisation funding given in January 2009 to kick off the first phase of it.

Here i would like to thank Tun Dr Mahathir who have created MSC Malaysia that helped us paved our way in ICT and technology through branding as well as agencies like Cradle who is continuously supporting us on new technology breakthrough and innovation.

As the title say it is a training program for mentors and trainers to help promote and assist others in applying for technopreneur seed funding.

The session was great, neat, nice and efficient. Everyone enjoyed it and we went straight to the point.

The program ended and we had a stroll around the innovation centre.

Today I am back in Inti for the 1st time to speak to my juniors and to share to them of my technopreneur experience.

Out of my expectation the crowd was big, i think one of the biggest talk with seats almost filled up for a standard lecture hall.

It seems that my juniors are shy as always but the respond was great. Glad to be back as previously i benefitted from one of my good friend and mentor Mr Mark Chang from Jobstreet. Hope that cycles goes on and i will see what i have shared today can inspire someone to stand at the same spot again in future.

There was even a junior who is a my youngest sister’s college mate. Time really flies.

This is the 1st and last time that i am giving out the free ebook as i think since it’s the first time i give my juniors a talk, i should give them something in return. At the end 70% wants the free ebook and we got 85 registration where everyone signup for it.
