This PUMM talk was in 18 May 2009, only today i suddenly remembered because another friend sending me the photographs taken that day!

It was during that talk that i have the idea of creating COMPUTERGENIUS(www.computergenius.com.my).

I have been a fan of Mr Stanley Yen who is the MD of Li Du Hotel! He has published few books that i have read through. The 1st one i read was pirated copy as there is no publisher in Malaysia publishing his book last time. It was only until the 3rd book named ‘be an angel for others’ that ‘Popular’ published under their brandname for Stanley Yen.

I followed the way how Stanley Yen describe but felt really tired pushing myself as i give talk to university, colleges and public over my weekends which are my holidays to share my knowledge and experience and be an angel to others! it was a great and wonderful experience but as time passed, it was also a tiring one. Not because i didn’t like it which i really liked it, but because there was no resting time for me. So the question is how to go on when i was going down tired and sick?

The answer lies in distribution to others which they can continue to distribute to more, commercializing it to ‘not big profit’ which normally people like to say ‘not for profit’ or ‘non profit’. Which i think business is profit making so i put it ‘not big profit’ business is the way forward for myself as well as for the benefits of others!

Thanks to Stanley Yen,now computergenius is going to be open for public!

It’s a annual event to go for durian with my fellow toast master’s mates from bayan baru. Every year, there would one day that we visit our ‘kun ming’ uncle to go to his durian plantation to taste the best durian in Malaysia, and some say Asia!

This year we have a winner for king of durian’ They are the twins which were born with a brandname call ‘xiao hong’ which means little red in english and is one of the most famous durian in penang.

It’s eating durian all the way until everyone drop dead and surrender!

As uncle Kun Ming continues non stop opening durians, we started off eating non stop!

It was 1 pile after another and the feast continues!!!

TWO US-based multinational corporations (MNCs) are setting up their business process outsourcing (BPO) and shared services centres in the RM100mil SunTech Tower in Bayan Baru soon.

A source told StarBiz that the two companies were hard-disk maker Seagate and National Instruments, which develops and makes software and hardware products that engineers and scientists use for test, control and embedded design applications.

The centres for both companies will each occupy a floor space of over 20,000 sq ft. “Renovation works on both centres have been completed. They are expected to begin operations either in May or June,” the source said.

The centres are expected to provide support for their respective group’s worlwide operations.

The 23-storey SunTech Tower, completed in mid-2008, is an MSC-compliant building with an estimated gross office space of over 200,000 sq ft.

National Instruments’ decision to set up the centre is in line with the company’s plan to establish a research and development (R&D) and manufacturing facility on a 17-acre site in Penang. The R&D and manufacturing facility is expected to generate some 1,500 jobs.

Seagate’s centre in Penang should further consolidate the group’s presence in Malaysia, as it already has a plant on the island which manufactures read and write heads for hard-disk drives and a plant in Johor involved in assembly works.

In a recent report entitled, Exploring Global Frontiers, KPMG said Penang could become a centre favoured by business process outsourcing (BPO) players.

It said Malaysia’s proximity to large labour pools, major client bases and multiple language skills could help Penang or any of the other 31 spots nominated by KPMG to become potential alternatives to established Indian cities.

The report said the credit crisis had resulted in a new rush for outsourcing services and that a number of new locations were emerging as viable BPO hubs.

Penang’s strength as a BPO hub has attracted MNCs such as Intel, Dell, Motorola, Citicorp and IBM to set up IT-BPO centres in Penang.

Software Consortium of Penang chairman Jeffrey Lim said software companies had developed a niche market by supplying BPO solutions for medical billings system, Web hosting, business match-making, education and digital audio and visual content.

Lim said that last year, IT-BPO exports from the consortium’s 70 members were estimated at US$800mil, compared with US$564mil in 2007.

GEORGE TOWN: Penang needs a data centre equipped with fibre optics hardware and high-speed servers to enhance its competitive edge as a business process outsourcing (BPO) cum shared services centre.

Software Consortium of Penang (Scope) chairman Jeffrey Lim said BPO centres on the island currently had to make use of privately-run server rooms housed in different office buildings on the island.

“Going through server rooms, all the data sent to customers overseas has to go through Kuala Lumpur, where there are several data centres.

“However, this procedure slows down data processing time and increases the cost of bandwidth charges, which will eventually erode our members’ competitiveness,” he said.

Lim said a data centre, which would require an initial investment of about RM20mil, could be a joint venture between the private and the public sector.

BPO centres provide medical billings, web hosting, business matchmaking, education, and digital audio and visual content for multinational corporations.

Lim said the software industry now engaged some 20,000 workers.

“The figure is likely to grow by 15% next year as many of our members are now recruting,” he said.

Meanwhile, investPenang general manager Wan Zailena Mohd Noordin said although the investment for a BPO centre might not be big, BPO investments created much needed spillover effects for the local software industry.

”For example, when a MNC outsources its BPO activities, it would need the software and hardware support from a pool of IT companies, as what is outsourced tends be very specialised,” she added.

This is the first time i am speaking to neither university students, lecturers nor professional businessman but to the public which consist of parents with their children.

When i saw that i was on the stage of a primary school talking while people are buying books down the stage, it seemed that the result wouldn’t be good.

But anyhow, still have to make the best of it and try my best!

Preparing the talk while popular already prepared the token of appreciation in front of me.

At around 8:05pm, there were around 18 people sitting in front of me, including some children together with their parents. I thought other people was looking through the books so i might as well start.

Going through it seems that it’s easier to focus with a smaller crowd.

As i started to talk, more and more crowd is attracted by my speech and they started gathering down stage and don’t dare to come up to take a seat. Then some even found chairs from don’t know where and sat down the stage to listen to my talk. Even the promoters gathered around the stage as well. It was great to know that my talk can attract so many people.

Getting my reward, after a hard night’s work. Well, it wasn’t really hardwork, i really enjoyed talking, it was the stress at the beginning not knowing the crowd respond. Everything turned out great!

At the end of the talk, after taking photo , all the promoters came up to ask question as well. It took me another 20 minutes to explain and answer their question. Well, hope that my effort helped you guys!

3 June 2009 to 5 June 2009, was invited by cradle to go to Smidex Fair. Thanks to Cradle, met with a lot of partners like Qualitas KL and other good friends who are also in the medical line as well.

Also met a good friend from PUMM Ipoh who is Steve during the exhibition. The world is small especially for Malaysia.

There were other people beside me on the fair who are cradle grant recipient as well. Seems we are the first batch to pass through the 150k application.

Took some photos with the pretty customer support officers from Cradle as well as with the expo and cradle recipients. It was a great few days to be with great people. All the best on our entrepreneurship trip!
